5 reasons to include Shiny yarn in Crochet dolls

I believed I have mentioned before I love using shiny yarn, whether it be gold or silver. Of late, I prefer to use them in small quantities sprinkled on my amis because making a whole ami out of silver yarn is pretty overkill (as you will see later).

So here are my 5 reasons you should definitely try to include shiny yarn in your crochet dolls:

1) Adds attention to areas of the dolls like their curvature

In these examples, I added gold yarn to the cleavage for Anna and Wonder Woman. Of course their original outfit already had gold components but just sewing on that little bit of gold makes the chest pop, no?

2) Adds a different colour dimension that yellow and grey just can’t give

The Jasmine on the left was a newer version I made, where I decided to replace the yellow in the original version I made (on the right) with gold yarn. That included her earrings, necklace and hair band. They do look different right!

3) Great for Amigurumi Accessories

Often, I include accessories either on the amis or with the amis. In this case for Sleeping Beauty I made her crown by crocheting gold yarn. As for Aquaman’s trident, I used craft wire to bend it into shape and subsequently wrapped around it with gold yarn.

4) Can make the Amigurumi look great if used in the right amount

There’s inclusion and then there’s excessive. As you can see for my Cyborg, I went slightly overboard with the silver yarn, after all his costume is really mostly silver. Then for Black Panther, I just added a little bit of silver yarn to define his face and it turned out pretty ok right?

5) Makes you appreciate regular yarn

Now if you are interested in using this pretty yarn colour but have never tried it before… trust me it can be a real pain to use.

This is how my silver yarn looks like when I don’t keep it properly and it’s much more difficult to untangle than regular yarn. BUT if you only using small quantities it’s really not too bad!

If you don’t know where to start, you can find silver yarn here and gold yarn here. As for the Princess Amigurumi patterns, which includes Belle, Anna, Jasmine and Sleeping Beauty, check it out here. Those are individual patterns, wait for the bundled one at the end of the month!

So go forth and test it out, it can really spruce up your amis!
