5 ways I use Rhinestones as Crochet accessories

Rhinestones are like tiny little shiny jewels… which I particularly liked to use for my Princess series! They are relatively cheap and easy to get and creates a shiny effect which crocheting a small magic ring won’t create…

I often use many different types of accessories to complement my amigurumi. Some of the basic tools and accessories that are often my go-to can be found here. Otherwise, I also love using craft wires, like I did with Merida’s bow too! This time, I’ll be taking about another favourite accessory of mine - rhinestones!

5 ways to use Rhinestones

1) Jewels

First and foremost, I actually bought my first set of rhinestones because I wanted to make Thanos with his gauntlet! Hehe, so I got a combination of various different colours and stuck them onto his ‘mitten’ as the infinity stones. This is how he looks like:

As for the girls this time when I made the Princess collection - they were useful in many different ways! For Moana and Pocahontas, I used them as the necklace pendants, while for Jasmine and Cinderella they were the jewels on their head-bands: 

2) Eyes

For the most part, I like to use glass eyes for my amigurumi, most like to use safety eyes because of the washer at the back which keeps it fixed in place. There were instances where I decided to use rhinestones to replace those eyes. 

As you can see, I used it when the eyes of the characters were slightly different from the usual norm. They included Momo from Last Avatar, Cyborg from Justice League and Two-faced from Batman. 

3) Visors

This was a recent addition when I decided to make the Mandalorian series. This is Kuiil with his visor! As you can see, I also chose to incorporate craft wire into his headgear. Read all about it in this previous post. I quite like how it turned out altogether in the end!

4) Lights

Lights lights lights! These instances I mostly used red rhinestones as the lights on a gunship and a starship. I think it turns out really well as a small light source because of its reflective nature. I’m pretty proud of these 2 creations are they are a lot more complex than my usual amigurumi.

5) Buttons

Here I decided to use rhinestones as buttons to Mario’s overalls. At the time, I decided to use it because making a small magic ring would still turn out too big as a button. This is how he turned out (together with mario pikachu):
