Making a Hat by Crocheting in a Round

Picked up a crochet hook and did something non-Amigurumi for once in a long time! This was a gift from my brother and his family back when I started crocheting. At that time, I left it aside because I was making mainly Amigurumi.

I stumbled across it again when I recently went back to my mother’s place and I decided to try a new type of yarn and hook!

To illustrate how learning to start off with a magic ring totally helps with crocheting hats too! I personally think it’s better than using ch2 and Sc which may either cause a small gap or may become slightly pointed.

Unlike the sphere which involves reducing the rounds back down again to fasten off at the end, making the hat involves continuing in equal rounds towards the end. Much like what to do when making a 3D cylinder, which I will cover in a future post. Managed to find a mount for me to test on :).

Folded up at the end as it was too big for my little one, but those few rows were all equal in the round.

How the final piece turned out! To be honest, it took me like one to two Scooby Doo cartoon shows to complete (approximately 30-45min for those who don’t know).

Size worked out for me and my little one… sort of! It’s tropical all year round in Singapore so we will not likely use this anytime soon. It was a good break from Amigurumi, any of you guys experience that once in a while?
