Free Crochet Gift Box Pattern
Here is a quick fun idea to crochet next, which can be used to house other smaller amigurumis! It is great for all seasons, and especially during the festive Christmas season. Just change up the colours and you can make all different kinds of gift boxes! It’s a slight step up from crocheting a cube so if you know how to do it, this is pretty easy.

Introduction to Crocheting Mini Gift Box
In this post, we will first be starting off with the relevant supplies and techniques you would need to crochet this mini present box - there are only 2 colours involved. We will be working in rows and rounds as well.
This is an ambitious beginner friendly pattern, here you will learn how to crochet into front/back loops, but mostly just single crochet, initially in rows and then subsequently in rounds.

Supplies and Techniques for Crocheting a Mini Gift Box
Here I have listed the techniques as well as the materials needed to crochet a gift box amigurumi. Terminology for Crocheting Mini Gift Box
Ch = chain
St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)
2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch)
Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease)
Materials and Tools for Crocheting Mini Present Box
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Version 1 - Bright Red, White (25gm)
Version 2 - Maroon, White (25gm each)
Darning needle
Scissors

Now that you have gathered your supplies and had a look at the basic terminology to reading the following pattern, let us first get started!
Yarn
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Crochet hook
2.5-3.0mm Clover crochet hook
Stuffing
Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill
Darning Needles
Stitch Markers
Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers
Crochet Gift Box Pattern
Crochet Gift Box Base
We will first be making a square flat base.
Start off with white yarn but get ready red yarn to change to.
Row 1: Ch3 (white), ch3 (red), ch4 (white) and turn (white)
Row 2: Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white), ch1 and turn (white) - 9st
When working along the row and changing colours, conceal the other non-working colour underneath the stitches.
Row 3: Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white), ch1 and turn red - 9st
Note in Row 3, colour change from white to red when making chain at end of row.
Row 4: Sc9 (red), ch1 and turn (red) - 9st
Conceal white yarn inside red stitches for this row.
Row 5: Sc9 (red), ch1 and turn (red) - 9st
For this row and the next, do not conceal the white yarn under the red stitches. This white yarn will be pulled down for the next row.
Row 6: Sc9 (red), ch1 and turn (white) - 9st
Row 7: Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white), ch1 and turn (white) - 9st
When working along the row and changing colours, conceal the other non-working colour underneath the stitches.
Row 8: Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white), ch1 and turn (white) - 8st
Also conceal changes in this row.
Row 9: Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white) - 9st
There is no chain 1 in this row because we will be switching from working in rows to working in rounds.
Crochet Gift Box Sides
Continue working down along the perpendicular side. Continue concealing the colour changes throughout in the round.
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc2 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white)
Place a stitch marker after the first stitch in corner in white in Round 1.
Turn piece again and work into perpendicular side. Continue in same
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white), sc2 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white)
Turn piece again and work into perpendicular side. Continue in same
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc2 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white)
Turn piece again and work into perpendicular side. Continue in same
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc2 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white)
Total stitches include 9st in each side x 4 = 36st
Round 2: [Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white)] x 4 - 36st
Round 3-7: Repeat round 2 - 36st
Round 8: Sc3 (white), sc3 (red), sc3 (white) x 4 and finish off - 36st
If you did your colour concealment well, both sides are interchangeable.
Crochet Gift Box Cover Base
Start off with white yarn but get ready red yarn to change to.
Row 1: Ch4 (white), ch4 (red), ch4 (white), ch1 and turn (white)
Row 2: Sc4 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white), ch1 and turn (white) - 12st
When working along the row and changing colours, conceal the other non-working colour underneath the stitches.
Row 3: Sc4 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white), ch1 and turn (white) - 12st
Row 4: Sc4 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white), ch1 and turn (red) - 12st
Note in Row 4, colour change from white to red when making chain at end of row.
Row 5: Sc12 (red), ch1 and turn (red) - 12st
Row 6-7: Repeat Row 5 - 12st
No need to conceal white yarn for these 3 rows.
Row 8: Sc12 (red), ch1 and turn white - 9st
Note in Row 8, colour change from white to red when making chain at end of row.
Row 9: Sc4 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white), ch1 and turn (white) - 12st
When working along this row and following 2 rows, when changing colours, conceal the other non-working colour underneath the stitches.
Row 10-11: Repeat Row 9 - 12st
Row 12: Sc4 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white) - 12st
There is no chain 1 in this row because we will be switching from working in rows to working in rounds.
Crochet Gift Box Cover Sides
Continue working down along the perpendicular side. Continue concealing the colour changes throughout in the round.
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc3 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white)
Place a stitch marker after the first stitch in corner in white in Round 1.
Turn piece again and work into perpendicular side. Continue in same
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc3 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white)
Turn piece again and work into perpendicular side. Continue in same
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc3 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white)
Turn piece again and work into perpendicular side. Continue in same
Round 1: Sc1 in corner (white) (same as previous st), sc3 (white), sc4 (red), sc4 (white)
Total stitches include 12 in each side x 4 = 48st
Round 2: [Sc4 BLO (white), sc4 BLO (red), sc4 BLO (white)] x 4 - 48st
Round 3: [Sc1 (white), sc2tog1 (white), sc1 (white), sc1 (red), sc2tog1 (red), sc1 (red), sc1 (white), sc2tog1 (white), sc1 (white)] x 4, then fasten and end off - 36st
Ribbon
Use red yarn to make the ribbon which is supposed to be attached to the top and middle of the box cover.
Ch51
Row 1: Sc50 - 50st
Row 2: Sc50 and fasten off - 50st
Tie a ribbon using the crocheted piece above. Then sew it down to the middle of the ‘t’ at the top of the gift box cover.
